Africa’s digital revolution will be powered by partnerships – Tony Blair

11th May 2016

Looking ahead to this week’s event on partnerships at the World Economic Forum on Africa in Kigali, AGI’s Patron, Tony Blair, argues that collaborative partnerships are essential to making the Africa’s digital revolution a reality.

Mr Blair cites examples of where Africa is at the forefront of technological innovation, such as Kenya’s adoption of mobile money, the schools in Nigerian that use apps to share and store academic records, and the drone-ports that will deliver medical supplies to rural Rwanda. He writes that supporting these countries to develop basic technological infrastructure, such as electricity, is crucial to “capitalizing on the potential of technology to improve lives and prospects across the continent.” And argues that this requires a new way of working together, one that is based on the principles of openness and collaboration that allowed for the digital revolution.
